5 Reasons why Rays fans can get over the ‘Check swing call’

As many know during game 2 of the ALDS Rangers vs Rays, there was a “blown call” on a check swing by Michael Young which should have been called a strike, which would have led to Young striking out. Instead the ump said he checked his swing and Young hit the next pitch into the stands for a three-run home run.

1. Check swing calls are judgment calls which means just like balls and strikes, umpires sometimes get them wrong. Get over it. They will never implement replay for check swing calls, so the Rays fans can give up on the chants.

2. Chad Qualls had just as good a chance to strike out Michael Young as Young had to get a hit. Young isn’t automatically given a three-run home run for working a full count. He had to hit the next pitch.

3. If Young was called out there would still only be two outs, which means you still have two men on base with Josh Hamilton coming up to bat. More than likely runs would have scored anyway.

4. The Rays didn’t score the entire game, in fact they were held to two hits. The Rangers really only needed the run scored by Traynor because of the Rays error.

5. The Rays are playing like they are the ones that have never won a Post Season series, and the Rangers are playing like they have been there and done that. The Rangers are winning overall because they are playing better baseball more consistently, if you do that, you’re going to win a lot more often than lose.
